BBNT - Be back next time, I think not

Filed under: Photos — Leefe @ 7:03 pm

Night settles on BBNTTrying to sort through my 365 Nights photos and workout what extra needs to be uploaded (a lot really). And I came across this photo I took of the closed BBNT (Burgers, Burritos, Nachos and Tacos) in Newtown.

The store was a interesting concept, and it could have worked. But in my experience the service was lacking, food took a long time come. And when it arrived it was cold and parts not properly cooked.

A quick search show me that I was not alone in my feelings. While some people seem to have enjoyed the place, many seem to have been left with a bad taste in their mouth :)

It seems that khemany had quite an experience at BBNT: No service from inept staff; delays in food preparation; that was cold and inedible when they finally got it.

Trip Advisor has mixed reviews about the place, though it does note BBNT is closed. It is listed as one of the things in the Facebook What do you HATE about Newtown?.

Alternatively, people at Sutekh seemed to think it was good. I found an interesting YouTube video about a BBNT experience. And the people at bellamyhayden seem to think their uneven closing time policy was a good marketing ploy.

Of course, being uneven in other areas is what let them down. The inability to maintain quality control on food, and the lack of customer service seem to be the thing that did them in.

Top 23 hits on Radio Guantanamo

Filed under: Music, News — Leefe @ 10:31 pm

What tracks do DJs at Radio Guantanamo like to play?

Well the SMH has a list of tracks apparently used for torture. Music used in American military prisons on detainees during interrogation for the effect of: sleep deprivation, culture shock, and disorientation.

Now, while I can see how some things could be considered torture, the Barney Theme Song for instance. I think that there are probably better Metallica tracks for the purpose than Enter Sandman.

Of course it begs the question: Are the American military paying all the royalties due for public performances?

Qld LAN party, after 2 years

Filed under: News — Leefe @ 2:34 pm

Well it seems that Queensland finally got its LAN party.

I noted the speculation 2 years ago, and it seems to have finally happened (without Howard to put it off). The Liberal and National parties in Queensland have merged to form one conservative party in the northern state.

Though I think they got the name wrong.

Apparently they are now called the Liberal National Party, or LNP for short.

Looks like a missed opportunity. Should have been the LAN party :)

Government censors internet policy

Filed under: Tech — Leefe @ 1:57 pm

Yesterday I received the usual email with a summary of domain name news. Though the response about one of the articles was more interesting.

Possibly a sample of future access denied error messages?

Looks like someone needed to look at their own network policy :)

It seems to have been fixed now, so for those people who missed out on seeing the error, here is a screen capture:

A terrorist stole my garbage bin

Filed under: Photos — Leefe @ 10:02 am

Just had the G8 summit in Tokyo. Lots of notices about beefed up security. And bins have been blocked off so you can use them, er put bombs in them.

It is funny though to find that in a society that is very particular about which bin you use, even the alternate bins are designated burnable and non-burnable.

Kyoto to be less combini-ent

Filed under: News — Leefe @ 8:12 pm

It seems Kyoto is planning to take drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gasses. Close all the convenience stores (combini to the Japanese).

Well, not quite that drastic. Japan Today reports that Kyoto is encouraging convenience stores to close early, so as to reduce their carbon foot print.

But would they still be convenient if only open 7am to 11pm?

And what about all the other 24 institutions, like Pachinko parlours? I can’t see them closing early.

Do you know this roleplayer?

Filed under: Photos, Roleplaying — Leefe @ 11:24 pm

Walking though Harajuku I was greeted by this visage staring down at me from a clothing store. Dark glasses, goatee, frilly shirt, bad jewellery… looks like a role player.

Actually, it reminds me of number role players I know in Sydney. And they probably just left a vampire freeform. :)

Manga, Movie or Other?

Filed under: Photos — Leefe @ 11:34 pm

Super hero in Shinjuku? Is that a manga character I see before me?

Or a new movie super hero?

No, it is Symantec Man.

Just beside Shinjuku station, outside Lumine Est, last night I noticed a giant inflatable figure. Wondering what new manga, or perhaps a new super hero movie, this figure was here to advertise I walked closer.

With a little disappointment, and some mirth, I read the sign behind its feet. Seems Shinjuku. The giant figure here to protect, or possibly enslave, Tokyo was Symantec Man.

Looking closely at the sign behind the leg you will see that this is Norton for Symantec.

Download Xcode at 3000+ KB/sec

Filed under: Mac — Leefe @ 11:55 pm

Yes, you read that correctly. I downloaded the Xcode 3.0 disk image at an average of 3000 KB per second. So the 1.1 GB file took less than 6 minutes.

Ah the joys of having an optical link.

Now if only most sites could deal with the speed. :)
